"Authouart, Le grand canyon du supermarché des images" book
"Authouart, Le grand canyon du supermarché des images" J.-L. Pradel, exhibition catalog, 2003.exhibition at le Palais Bénédictine, February 8th - June 15th 2003.This retrospective was an exceptional moment, this much appreciated work being disseminated accross the world. Daniel Authouart has a sense of detail and precision.
As an informed observer and with dexterity, he sketches constantly, and wherever he is, the world around him: on the beach, in the train, the subway or the streets of New York. His drawings become large canvases where, like comics heroes, American stars and the great names of history mingle with anonymous to tell the theater of life and bear witness to an era and a culture.
Reality gives way to fantasy and fiction ; the characters come to life in a setting that is both familiar and surreal. Faced with a work by Daniel Authouart, the viewer cannot be passive : he too finds himself observing and analyzing the scenes and images offered to him, in order to decipher messages and, perhaps, find answers to his questions.
